Project Overview

In this 30-minute class project, your group will design a new cover for the novel "No Fixed Address" by Susin Nielsen. Your goal is to reflect the themes, characters, and emotions of the story through your design.

Objectives

  • Understand key themes and characters from "No Fixed Address."
  • Collaborate effectively to brainstorm and create a design.
  • Use artistic skills and creativity to develop a visually appealing cover.
  • Present your design and explain your choices.

Project Steps

  1. Quick Review of the Novel

    • Discuss the main themes: homelessness, family, friendship, resilience, and identity.
    • Identify key characters (e.g., Felix, his mother, and their struggles).
  2. Brainstorm Design Ideas (5 minutes)

    • In small groups, brainstorm ideas for your new cover.
    • Consider imagery, color schemes, and font styles that represent the novel’s themes and emotions.
    • Sketch rough ideas on paper - if required.
  3. Create a new cover!!! 20 min

    • Choose the best idea and create a new cover.
    • Use available materials (markers, colored pencils, or paper).
    • Include:
      • Title: "No Fixed Address"
      • Author: Susin Nielsen
      • Group name (optional).
  4. Final Touches (5 minutes)

    • Add details and color to finalize your design.
  5. Group Presentations (10 minutes)

    • Each group presents their cover design (1-2 minutes each).
    • Explain your design choices and how they reflect the themes and characters of the novel.
    • Allow a minute for questions and feedback.
