Review - Metaphor -  Student NOTES to copy: A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object, idea, or action in a way that isn’t literally true but helps explain or illustrate it by saying it is something else. Instead of using “like” or “as” (which would make it a simile), a metaphor states that one thing is another to draw a symbolic comparison. In Sally Ito’s poem Pangaea , the poet employs metaphors to explore themes of unity, separation, and collective memory. The title itself, Pangaea , refers to the supercontinent that existed before the landmasses drifted apart—a powerful metaphor for a time of wholeness and connection.
